Team-Mate collision leaves Mostert last at Pukekohe

Original by Supercars, edited by me.

Chaz Mosert picked up his 5th last-place finish of his career when his #55 Supercheap Auto Ford finished under power, 14 laps down in the first race at Pukekohe. The finish came in Mostert's 197th start.

Mostert has been racing full-time since 2014 and has been a solid racer. He was 20th in Practice 1 but jumped to 12th in Practice 2. He was fastest in Practice 3, then qualified 4th.

Jack LeBrocq in the #19 Truck Assist Holden started the race in the rear, and over the first lap he traded last with Simona De Silvestro in the #78 Harvey Norman Nissan.
On lap 2 Nick Percat in the #8 NZ Safety Blackwoods Holden was spun out at turn 8 by Jamie Whincup in the #88 Red Bull Holden, sending Percat to the rear.

Pitstops begin on lap 5, and Anton De Pasquale in the #99 Penrite Oils/Enviro Box Holden pitted and fell to the rear. Jamie Whincup enters the picture on lap 6, dropping to the rear in his pitstop.
Whincup held last until lap 9 when James Courtney in the #22 Mobil 1 Holden pitted and fell to the rear.

Next to enter the Last-Place battle was Mark Winterbottom in the #18 Irwin Tools/Fuchs Holden had a Fuel issue on lap 14, triggering the only safety car of the race. Frosty lost 5 laps.
Winterbottom held last until lap 28 when he passed James Golding in the #34 Boost Mobile Holden, who at the time was in the garage with Power Steering issues from back on lap 23. Golding would lose 10 laps in repairs.

Golding held last until lap 39 when teammates Cameron Waters in the #6 Monster Energy Ford and Chaz Mostert in the #55 Supercheap Auto Holden collided, damaging the Suspension on car #33, sending him to the garage. Mostert would fall to last on lap 49, and return to the track on lap 53, 13 laps down, then lost a t14th lap in a subsequent pit-lane penalty.

Rounding out the bottom five was Jack LeBrocq in the #19 Truck Assist Holden and Macauley Jones in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden.
