Heavy Crash leaves Stanaway and Owen last at the Gold Coast, as heavy rain abandons second race

Original by Supercars, edited by me, Botton 2 shown here.
Richie Stanaway picked up his 3rd last-place finish of his career, while Steve Owen picked up his 9th last-place finish of his career, when their #56 Rabble.club Ford was involved in a 2-car crash that ended their race after 23 of the race's 102 laps. The finish came in Stanaway's 33rd race start, and Steve Owen's 189th start.

The second race at the Gold Coast was abandoned due to extreme weather.

In terms of experience, Richie Stanaway and Steve Owen are worlds apart. Steve Owen is a Veteran, while Richie Stanaway is a rookie. It has been a struggle of a rookie season for Richie Stanaway. He's shown flashes of his brilliance but has really struggled overall. Steve Owen. on the other hand, is a veteran, racing at least part-time since 1999. Over the last few seasons he has been a co-driver for the Enduros. Stanaway and Owen were slowest in first practice but rocketed up to 5th in Practice 2. They then plummeted to 25th in Practice 3, then qualified 24th.

Tim Blanchard and Dale Wood started the race in the rear in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden, but by lap 4 Bryce Fulwood in the #35 BigMate/Optus Ford fell to the rear.

Michael Caruso and Dean Fiore in the #23 Industrial Athlete/Auto Glym Nissan started having ECU issues on lap 8, dropping to last on lap 11. Car #23 would pull into the garage on lap 24, losing a lap in repairs. Caruso went back to the garage on lap 79, losing 5 more laps. Caruso and Fiore would eventually finish 23rd, 7 laps down.

On lap 22 Will Brown and Anton De Pasquale in the #99 Penrite Oils Holden crashed at turn 2, then was collected by Steve Owen in the #56 Rabble.club Ford, destroying both cars and triggering the only safety car of the race. dropping Stanaway and Owen to last, and De Pasquale and Brown to 25th.

Also falling behind Caurso and Fiore was James Golding and Richard Muscat in the #34 Wilson Security Holden. Suspension failure on lap 80 forced Golding to the garage, losing 10 laps in repairs. Rounding out the bottom five was Rick Kelly and Garry Jacobson in the #15 Sengled Nissan, also suffering Suspension failure on lap 96, sending them to the garage, losing 4 laps in repairs.
