Transaxle failure leaves Coulthard last at Newcastle

Fabian Coulthard picked up his 10th last-place finish of his career when his #12 Shell V-Power Ford retired with a Transaxle failure after 15 of the race’s 95 laps. The finish came in Coulthard’s 349th start.

2017 Virgin Australia LASTCAR champion Taz Douglas started the race in the rear in the #3 Repair Management/Castrol, and held last until the end of lap 1 when Dale Wood in the #99 GB Galvanizing/ADVAN Holden pitted, dropping him to the rear, and fell further behind after a pit-lane drive through penalty for a pit-lane speed limit infringement.

After pitting and copping a pit-lane penalty for speeding in the pit-lane, Fabian Coulthard pulled into the garage on lap 16 due to a transaxle issue, and retired on lap 26.

Desperately trying to pass Scott McLaughlin in the #17 Shell V-Power Ford for 11th on the final lap, Craig Lowndes in the #888 Caltex Vortex Holden collides with McLaughlin, pitching Lowndes into the wall, ending his race and leaving him 25th. Rounding out the bottom five was James Courtney in the #22 Mobil 1 HSV Racing/Boost Mobile Holden pitted on lap 77 after contact with Tim Slade in the #14 Freightliner Holden, bending the steering on Courtney's car, dropping 4 laps in repairs, Cameron Waters in the #6 Monster Energy Ford, after making contact with the wall on lap 50 after contact with Garth Tander in the #33 Wilson Security Holden, losing 3 laps in repairs and Jason Bright in the #56 Mega Bulk Fuels Ford after a restart melee on lap  damaged the front of his car, dropping 2 laps in repairs.
