Engine Misfire leaves Coulthard last at the Island

Fabian Coulthard picked up his 7th last-place finish of his career when his #12 Pirtek Ford retired with a misfiring Engine after 3 of the race's 45 laps. The finish came in Coulthard's 301st start.


Aaren Russell in the #4 Plus Fitness Holden started the race in the rear, however before the start Fabian Coulthard in the #12 Pirtek Ford suffered Electrical issues, dropping to the rear, then early in lap 1 Chris Pither in the #111 Ice Break Ford fell to the rear, and by lap 3 was in the garage with Steering issues, eventually leaving Pither 9 laps down to race winner Scott McLaughlin.


On the following lap, Fabian Coulthard in the #12 Pirtek Ford pulled into the garage with an Engine misfire that eventually KO'ed Coulthard from the race, leaving him last. Splitting Coulthard and Pither was Jason Bright in the #8 BOC Holden who retired with Power Steering failure on lap 36, dropping him to 25th.


Rounding out the bottom five was Cameron Waters in the #6 Pepsi Max/Castrol Ford after a major right-front tire failure on lap 34, dropping a lap in repairs and causing the only Safety Car of the race and Aaren Russell in the #4 Plus Fitness Holden.

Late race tire failure leaves Pye last at the Island

Scott Pye picked up his 10th last-place finish of his career when his #17 Pirtek Ford finished under power, 2 laps down in the first race at Philip Island. The finish came in Pye’s 111th race start.


Aaren Russel in the #4 Plus Fitness Holden started the race in the rear, however by turn 1 Dale Wood in the #96 GB Galvanizing/ADVAM Holden had fallen to the rear after almost stalling at the start. By lap 3 Aaren Russell had fallen back to last. On lap 5 pitstops began, and Michael Caruso in the #23 – Nissan fell to the rear. Lap 8 saw Aaren Russel in the #4 Plus Fitness Holden fall back to the rear.


Russell held last until lap 24 When Scott Pye in the #17 Pirtek Ford blew a right-front tire, spearing him off the road at turn 1. Pye dropped 2 laps trying to get back to the pit-lane and fell to last. Scott Pye wouldn’t be the last driver to suffer a right-front tire failure, this fate also befalls Chazz Mostert in the #55 Supercheap Auto Holden on the last lap, dropping him to 23rd.


Splitting Mostert and Russell was Andre Heimgartner in the #3 ABRO/Repair Management Australia Holden. Rounding out the bottom five was Tim Blanchard in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden after he ran off the road, also on the final lap.

Hard Crash leaves Pither last at Launceston

Chris Pither picked up his 4th last-place finish of his career when his #111 Ice Break Ford was involved in a hard single car crash that ended his race after 3 of the race's 84 laps. The finish came in Pither's 85th start.

Aaren Russell in the #4 Plus Fitness/Penrite Holden started the race in the rear, however by turn 4 Dale Wood in the #96 GB Galvnizing/ADVAM Holden had fallen behind Russell, then at the end of lap 1 Craig Lowndes in the #888 Vortex Holden had fallen to the rear after a first-lap pitstop which he held until lap 4 when catastrophe strikes for Chris Pither in the #111 Ice Break Ford after a collision with Nick Percat in the #222 ABRO/Repair Management Australia Holden sent Pither into the same barrier that also runs behind the straight between turns 3 and 4, triggering the 1st Safety Car of the race. The crash left Pither in last, out of the race.

Next to retire was Rick Kelly in the #15 Sengeld Nissan, Brake issues forcing Rick to the garage on lap 55, dropping 8 laps. Then shortly after returning to the rack, the Left-Front Brake disc exploded, ending Rick's race. The remainder of the bottom five was determined on lap 81 when Cameron Waters in the #6 Pepsi Max/Castrol Ford, already 16 laps down after Engine issues suffered a complete engine failure and dumped a huge amount of oil in turn 4. Andre Heimgartner in the #3 ABRO/Repair Management Australia Holden speared off the road along with Jamie Whincup in the #88 Red Bull Racing Holden, then only a lap ahead of Heimgartner. While Whincup got out of the sand Heimgartner wasn't so lucky, finishing 22nd.

Splitting Waters and Heimgartner was Tim Blanchard in the #21 Cooldrive Holden, who suffered Brake failure on lap 75, spearing off the road at turn 6.

Engine troubles leave McLaughlin last a Launceston

Scott McLaughlin picked up his 10th last-place finish of his career when his #33 Wilson Security/Valvoline Volvo finished under power, 10 laps down in the first race at Launceston Tasmania. The finish came in McLaughlin's 115th start.

Aaren Russell in the #4 Plus Fitness/Penrite Holden qualified 26th for the race, however Scott McLaughlin in the #33 Wilson Security/Valvoline Volvo suffered Engine issues before the cars arrived at the grid. McLaughlin started the race in the pit-lane and fell to the rear, limping around on the first lap, before pulling into the garage on lap 2, losing 10 laps.

Rounding out the bottom five was Andre Heimgartner in the #3 ABRO/Repair Management Australia Holden after an early-race off road excursion, Nick Percat in the #222 ABRO/Repair Management Australia Holden, Aaren Russel in the #4 Plus Fitness/Penrite Holden and Dale Wood in the #96 GB Galvanizing/ADVAM Holden.
