Big crash at the Cutting leaves Whincup and Lowndes last at Bathurst, as Chris Pither becomes Champion for 2020.

Original by Fox Sports, edited by me.

Jamie Whincup picked up his 12th last-place finish of his career, while Craig Lowndes picked up his 7th last-place finish of his career, when their #88 Red Bull Holden was involved in a single-car crash after 32 of the race's 161 laps. The finish came in Whincup's 522nd start, and Lowndes 671st start.

Both Whincup and Lowndes are legends in Supercars, with eleven championships between them, as well as eleven Bathurst's. Whincup was 2nd in Practice 1, but fell to 23rd after Lowndes' Practice was cut short by a fire, but they recovered to 16th in Practice 3. then Lowndes boosted it to 14th in Practice 4, then Whincup got it up to 5th in Practice 5. They fell to 15th in Practice 6, but they recovered to 8th in Practice 7. Whincup qualified 5th but went off in the Shootout at the Chase and would start 9th.

Zane Goddard in the #34 UNIT Holden started the race in the rear but after almost stalling off the start James Golding in the #18 Irwin Tools Holden fell to the rear. Macauley Jones in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Holden got a Mechanical Black Flag on lap 2 for a door not closed properly, dropping to the rear.

Rick Kelly in the #15 Castrol Nissan suffered Clutch problems in the early stages of the race, and it got worse very fast, bringing him into the Garage on lap 22, dropping to the rear on lap 23, dropping 17 laps in repairs. Due to attrition, however, Kelly and Wood would eventually rise out of the bottom five.

Apocalypse stuck for Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes in the #888 Red Bull Holden, crashing out on lap 33, dropping him to the rear and triggering the first Safety CAr of the race.

Following car #888 out were Todd Hazelwood and Jordan Boys in the #14 Club Cadet Holden after Boys crashed on the front straight on lap 51, triggering the second Safety Car of the race. Garry Jacobson and Zane Goddard in the #35 UNIT Holden was next out with Engine failure.

Garry Jacobson and Zane Goddard in the #35 Yellow Cover Holden started smoking on lap 57, and pulled into the garage on Lap 62 with Engine issues, losing 5 laps in repairs then retired on lap 68.

Rounding out the bottom five was Bryce Fullwood and Kurt Kostecki in the #2 Middy’s Electrical Holden after crashing out at Skyline on lap 152, triggering the 4th Safety Car of the race, and Jack Smith and Jack Perkins in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden after spinning out of the race on lap 152/
