Horror Season Continues as Jamie Whincup crashes out of Townsville, moves into 2nd.

Jamie Whincup picked up his 11th last-place finish of his career when his #88 Red Bull Holden Racing Team Holden was involved in a single-car crash that ended his run after 18 of the race's 64 laps. The finish came in Whincup's 482nd start.

Whincup is a legend in Supercars, but so far, has had a horror 2019, with two last-place finishes heading into this weekend, and no wins. He was 7th in Practice 1, but crashed to 16th in Practice 2. He surged to 5th in Practice 3, but fell to 12th in Qualifying, missing the shootout.

Michael Caruso in the #33 Boost Mobile Holden started the race in the rear, but at turn 3 David Reynolds in the #9 Penrite Oils Holden and Scott McLaughlin in the #17 Shell V-Power Ford collide, damaging the rear tire on McLaughlin's car, and the steering on Reynolds car, sending firstly McLaughlin then Reynolds to last, sending Reynolds to last and losing 4 laps in the garage.
Reynolds held last until the rain came down on lap 18, and Jamie Whincup in the #88 Red Bull Holden Racing Team Holden ran on the wet kerb at turn 6, sending him hard into the wall, ending his race and sending him to last, triggering the first Safety Car of the race.

Next to fall out was Mark Winterbottom in the #18 Irwin Holden, firstly he spun Andre Heimgartner in the #7 Plus Fitness Nissan on lap 29, Heimgartner was then collected by Will Davison in the #230 Milwakee Ford, sending Davison to the garage, losing 12 laps in repairs, and Winterbottom penalised. But that wasn't the end, as he was taken out by Macauley Jones in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden on lap 44. This time the damage was too much, and Winterbottom officially retired on lap 47.

Following Winterbottom out was Garry Jacobson in the #3 Rabble.club Nissan, who on lap 60 had a major engine failure, triggering the second Safety Car of the race. Davison and Reynolds rounded out the bottom five.
