Dale Wood goes to top of Albert Park Last-Place standings after finishing last at Albert ParkOr

Dale Wood picked up his 4th last-place finish at Albert Park when his #99 GB Galvanizing/ADVAN Holden was involved in a multi-car melee that ended his race without completing a single lap of the final race at Albert Park.

Craig Lowndes in the #888 Caltex Vortex Holden started the race in the rear after a qualifying infraction, but, almost immediately after the start Alex Rullo in the #62 Repair Management/Castrol Holden fell to the rear. At turns 1 and 2, however, disaster struck.

Dale Wood in the #99 GB Galvanising/ADVAN Holden ran into the back of Tim Blanchard in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden, who then got into the back of Jason Bright in the #56 Mega Bulk Fuels Ford, sending Bright into Cameron Waters in the #6 Monster Energy Ford, also spearing James Moffat in the #34 Wilson Security Holden. Moving to avoid the spinning Moffat Bright contacted Blanchard, sending Blanchard into a spin while also dealing further damage to Wood’s car. The damage was terminal for Wood, Waters and Blanchard, with Wood retiring with major front-end damage on lap 1, Waters retiring with a brake fire from grass in the wheel (Don’t ask me how that happened) on lap 2 and Blanchard retiring with a puncture on lap 8.

Rounding out the bottom five was Taz Douglas in the # Lift Holden and Fabian Coulthard in the #12 Shell Holden after a mid-race puncture.
