Massive first-lap crash leaves Jack LeBrocq last at Ipswich

Original by Speedcafe, cropped by me.

Jack LeBrocq (#9 Tyrepower Chevrolet) picked up the 18th last-place finish of his career after a first-lap crash ended his race. The finish came in LeBrocq’s 254th start.

Jack LeBrocq is in his 8th full-time season, one of five 2018 rookies alongside Richie Stanaway, Anton De Pasquale, Todd Hazelwood, and James Golding. Jack is one of only two drivers who have had a ride through his eight years. Stanaway and Golding spent time out of the sport. Hazelwood has been out since replacing Brodie Kostecki at Erebus Motorsports for the first two races of 2024 because of mental health issues. Jack LeBrocq debuted with Tekno Autosports. He moved to Tickford in 2020 and won his first race with them. LeBrocq then moved to Matt Stone Racing in 2022. In 2023, he won his second race before moving to Erebus Motorsports in 2024.

James Courtney (#7 Snowy River Caravans Ford) started last, Cooper Murray (#99 Erebus Chevrolet) went over the right-rear of Thomas Randle (#55 Castrol Ford) off the start. Then at Turn 1 Aaron Cameron (#3 Adventures Industry Ford) tangled with Cooper Murray (#99 Erebus Chevrolet).

Others involved include Cameron Crick (#35 Dormer HVAC Chevrolet), Cameron Hill (#4 Sinopec Chevrolet) and Kai Allen (#26 Penrite Oils Ford).

Brodie Kostecki (#38 Shell V-Power Ford), Jaxon Evans (#12 SCT Logistics Chevrolet) and Jack LeBrocq (#9 Tyrepower Chevrolet) would cop the worst of the incident.

The crash would put Evans, Kostecki, and LeBrocq in the garage and knock Aaron Cameron a lap down.

Kostecki would lose 6 laps in repairs. Evans would get back out, but too many laps down to be classified.

Why would Brad Jones Racing send Jaxon Evans back out when they’re too many laps down to be classified?

To prevent Evans from finishing last for the 4th time this year, and to get more points for the Pirtek Pitstop challenge. Evans would run 5 laps before retiring.

Damage from the lap 1 crash would cause a slow stop for Cooper Murray (#99 Erebus Chevrolet) on lap 27. Murray would lose 2 laps in the garage starting Lap 33.
