Last-Place Championship tightens up after Mostert's 2nd last-place finish of the season.

Chaz Mostert picked up the 10th last-place finish of his career when his #25 Mobile 1/Optus Ford retired with Power Steering failure after 2 of the race's 88 laps. The finish came in Mostert’s 310th start and his 2nd of the year.

Chaz Mostert is a sports veteran, in his 9th full-time season. 2015 would've been a full-time season if he didn't have a massive crash at Bathurst 2015 that snapped his leg in half and ended his season. He raced 26 races in 2013 for Dick Johnson Racing, then moved to Ford Performance Racing/Rod Nash Racing/Tickford Racing for 6 years before moving to Walkinshaw Andretti United in 2020. It has been very up and down in 2023 for Mostert, a double podium at Newcastle and is reasonably consistent, though he has had his struggles. He enters the championship 5th. He was 20th in Practice 1 but rose to 15th in Practice 2. He rocketed to 3rd in Qualifying but hit the wall in the Top 10 Shootout and started 10th.

Shane Van Gisbergen in the #97 Red Bull/Ampol Chevrolet started the race in the rear after stuffing up his only qualifying lap. Shane only got one chance due to Mechanical issues. Shane briefly got out of last but returned to last after getting turned by Declan Fraser in the #56 Tradie Ford.

Chaz Mostert in the #25 Mobil 1/Optus Ford retired with Power Steering failure the following lap.

Next out was Todd Hazelwood in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Ford after Brake failure ended his race. Rounding out the bottom five was Tim Slade in the #23 Nulon Holden pulled into the Garage on Lap 20 with an unrelated Power Steering failure, losing 5 laps in repairs, Cameron Hill in the #35 Truck Assist Holden pulled into the Garage on Lap 51 to replace the crash box, losing 5 laps in repairs and Will Davison in the #17 Shell V-Power Ford suffered a right-rear puncture on Lap 44.
