First lap multi-car shunt leaves Randle and Best last at BATHURST

Original by Supercars, edited by me.
Thomas Randle picked up the 1st last-place finish of his career, while Zak Best picked up the 3rd last-place finish of his career when their #55 Castrol Ford was involved in a multi-car crash that ended their race without completing a single lap of the Bathurst 1000. The finish came in Randle's 48th start and Best's 8th start.

Thomas Randle is in his 1st full-time season, having had a big comeback after testicular cancer. They were 27th in Practice 1, but Zak Best rocketed them up to 7th in Practice 2. They slipped to 9th in Practice 3, then fell to 18th in Practice 4. Zak Best was slowest in Practice 5, and they rose to 22nd in Practice 6. Between Practices 4 and 5, Thomas Randle qualified 15th.\

Tim Slade in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Holden started the race in last, but at Turn 1, due to the mess at the corner, going up Mountain Straight, they had The Big one involving Zak Best in the #55 Castrol Ford, Jack Perkins in the #9 Boost Mobile Holden, Jake Kostecki in the #56 Tradie Ford, Tony D'Alberto in the #100 Shell V-Power Ford, Jack Smith and Jaxon Evans in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden, Mark Winterbottom in the #18 Irwin Tools/Fuchs Holden. Coming off worst was the #55, who hit the inside wall hard, leaving them last. Perkins lost 1 lap.

Zane Goddard in the #5 Snowy River Caravans Ford went off the track at the Chase on Lap 5. When he came back onto the track, he collected Dale Wood in the #8 R&J Batteries/Club Cadet Holden and Matt Campbell in the #26 Penrite Holden, ending all three car races.

The last spot of the Bottom Five was a much more heated, and interesting battle. Lap 19 saw Todd Hazelwood in the #35 Truck Assist Holden fall to the Bottom five with Bonnet issues. He jumped ahead of Alex Davison in the #17 Shell V-Power Ford after he crashed in the chase on Lap 31, triggering the 4th Safety Car of the race. Tim Blanchard in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Holden on Lap 50, losing 2 laps while waiting to be retrieved.

Nick Percat in the #2 NTI/Mobil 1 Holden hit the fence heading into Forest Elbow on Lap 78, dropping him into the Bottom 5, losing 13 laps in repairs, and that is where he stayed for the majority of the remainder of the race. Then with less than 30 laps to go, Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden crashed out at Reed Park on Lap 138. On the lead lap at the time, he dropped to the final spot in the Bottom Five on Lap 151.
