Simulator Race: Buddy Baker last after multi-car crash at the 1988 Southern 500 Simulated

Buddy Baker finished last in DerpP's 1988 Southern 500 race at Darlington when his #33 Red Baron Pontiac was involved in a 4-car crash that ended his race after 94 of the race's 367 laps.

Right at the start of the race, Rick Wilson in the #4 Kodak Pontiac had a puncture that dropped him to last, 2 laps down. He held that until the restart on Lap 70 for a lap 64 crash involving Alan Kulwicki in the #7 Zerex Ford and Chad Little in the #19 Coors Ford.

On the restart, Benny Parsons BULLS-EYE Ford ran out of fuel, he lost 3 laps getting that rectified and fell to last.

He held it until Lap 94 when Buddy Baker in the #33 Red Baron Pontiac was turned into the wall by Sterling Marlin in the #44 Piedmont Airlines Oldsmobile. Baker was then collected by Kyle Petty in the #21 CITGO Ford and Harry Gant in the #33 Skoal Bandit Chevrolet, completely destroying both cars and ending their races. Baker was last, while Gant was 2nd last.

The Bottom Five was determined in a massive crash on Lap 163.

Bobby Hillin Jr #8 Miller Lite Buick spins Alan Kulwicki in the #7 Zerex Ford and is then smashed into by Chad Little in the #19 Coors Ford.

Trying to avoid the crash, Darrell Waltrip in the #17 Tide Chevrolet spins and collects his teammates Geoff Bidone in the #5 Levi Garrett Chevrolet.

As Little and Kulwicki slide down they collide with Richard Petty in the #43 STP Pontiac and Eddie Bierschwaele in the #23 Wayne Paging Oldmobile, causing Chad Little in the #19 Coors Ford to flip. Then, Morgan Shepherd in the #57 Heinz Tomato Ketchup Ford caused Eddie to flip, then Petty flipped after contact with the #21 and #44.

After a rough race, including a tire blowout on lap 136, Kyle Petty in the #21 CITGO Ford finished 3rd last after the crash, then Chad Little in the #19 Coors Ford was 4th last, and Eddie Bierschwaele in the #23 Wayne Paging Oldsmobile, all retiring.

  1. Hi, it's DerpP!

For those interested, the eventual winner was Dale Earnhardt Sr, holding off Bobby Hillin Jr and Ricky Rudd right at the end after a late crash involving Neil Bonnett
