Electrical failure leaves Tander Last at Tailem Bend

Original by Supercars, Edited by me
Garth Tander picked up his 14th last-place finish of his career when his #33 Wilson Security Holden finished under power, 6 laps down in the inaugural race at Tailem Bend, about 100km south-east of Adelaide. The finish came in Tander's 626th start.

Garth Tander is the second longest driver in the Supercars series, only behind Craig Lowndes, and, having started in 1998, will overtake Lowndes provided he doesn't retire before 2019. He has 1 championship, won in 2007.
He was 8th in Practice 1 but plummeted to 24th in Practice 2. He rose only to 19th in Practice 3 but would qualify 10th.

Todd Hazelwood in the #35 BigMate/Optus Ford started the race in the rear, but by turn 1 Kurt Kostecki in the #42 Arcoplate Holden fell to the rear, then briefly Craig Lowndes in the #888 Autobahn/HP Holden fell to the rear, then Anton De Pasquale in the #99 Penrite Holden fell to the rear.

On lap 2 Richie Stanaway in the #56 Rabble.club Ford spun out at turn 3, falling to the rear in the process. De Pasquale returned to last on lap 3.

Pitstops started on lap 5, and Lowndes returned to last when he pitted on lap 5. During these pitstops, disaster struck for Garth Tander in the #33 Wilson Security Holden, electrical issues causing car #33 to stall at the entrance to the final corner, triggering the only Safety car of the race. Tander lost 6 laps in repairs and remained last for the rest of the race.

Rounding out the bottom five was Kurt Kostecki in the #42 Acroplate Holden, Todd Hazelwood in the #35 BigMate/Optus Ford, Macauley Jones in the #4 DrillPro Services Holden and Anton De Pasquale in the #99 Penrite Holden.
