Big off at turn 1 leaves Macauley Jones last at Darwin

Original by Supercars, edited by me.

Macauley Jones picked up his 1st last-place finish of his career when his #4 DrillPro Services Holden finished under power, 1 lap down in the first race at Hidden Valley. The finish came in Jones' 17th start.

Macauley Jones is currently a racer in the Super2 series (XFinity of Supercars) and has run all his races as either a co-driver or a wildcard entry. He was the slowest in Practice 1 and Practice 2, but improved to 21st in Practice 3, despite crashing late in the session. Jones lined up in 25th.

Todd Hazelwood in the #35 BigMate/Optus Ford started the race in the rear and held last until Turn 1 Lap 2 when James Golding in the #34 Wilson Security Holden hit Cameron Waters in the #6 Monster Energy Ford, sending Waters into Mark Winterbottom in the #5 Bottle-O Ford, causing Winterbottom to spin and dropping him to the rear. Golding copped a 15 second time penalty for the incident.

Winterbottom held last until Lap 5 when Chazz Mostert in the #55 Supercheap Auto Ford pitted, dropping him to the rear. Golding falls to last during his pit-stop on lap 6. Richie Stanaway in the #56 Rabble.com Ford went off twice on laps 10 and 11, dropping him to the rear.
Stanaway held last until Todd Hazelwood in the #35 BigMate Ford pitted, dropping to the rear, followed by Macauley Jones on lap 21, where he firstly ran off at turn 1 on lap 20, then pitted on lap 21, dropping to the rear.

Rounding out the bottom five was James Golding in the #34 Wilson Security Holden, Richie Stanaway in the #56 Rabble Club Ford after a 5 second post-race penalty for contact with James Courtney, Todd Hazelwood in the #35 BigMate/Optus Ford and James Courtney in the #25 Mobil 1/Boost Mobile Holden.
