Fabian Coulthard picked up his 9th last-place finish of his career when his #12 Shell V-Power Ford was involved in 3-car crash that ended his race after 56 of the race's shortened 66 laps. The finish came in Coulthard's 346th start, and his second last-place finish where’s he’s flipped out of the race, the first coming at Bathurst in 2010.

After qualifying was rained out and the starting order was set based on combined 1st and 2nd practice session, Jack Perkins in the #62 Repair Management/Castrol Holden started the race in the rear, and exchanged last a couple of times with Aaren Russell in the #3 Plus Fitness Holden.

Perkins held last until lap 9 when James Courtney in the #22 Mobil 1 HSV/Boost Mobile Holden, dropping him to the rear, then on lap 12 when Michael Caruso in the #23 Nissan Nismo/Auto Glym Holden pitted, dropping him to the rear. By lap 14 Tim Blanchard in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden pitted, falling to the rear. Jack Perkins falls back to last shortly afterwards.

Perkins held last until lap 32 when James Courtney in the #22 Mobil 1 HSV/Boost Mobile Holden crashed in turn 3 on lap 31, triggering the 1st Safety car of the race and dropping Courtney to the rear, 3 laps down. Courtney would eventually finish 25th.

The biggest crash of the race came on lap 56, after contact between David Reynolds in the #9 Penrite Holden and Chaz Mostert in the #55 Supercheap Auto/Navy Heath Ford. During the subsequent redress, Fabian Coulthard in the #12 - Ford bumped Reynolds, causing Reynolds to bump the wall and Coulthard to flip wildly at turn 11, ending Coulthard's race, and almost his weekend. Reynolds would finish 24th, 3 laps down.

Rounding out the bottom five was Chaz Mostert in the #55 Supercheap Auto/Navy Heath Ford after a pit-lane drive-through penalty for the contact with Reynolds and Jack Perkins in the #62 - Holden.
