Door troubles leave Taz Douglas last in First Sprint for the Grid

Original by Newcastle Herald, edited by me
Taz Douglas picked up his 1st Sprint for the Grid last-place finish of his career when his #3 Gemini/Repair Management Australia Holden was involved in a multi-car incident that ended is race after 1 of the race’s shortened 17 laps.

Alex Davison in the #3 Gemini/Repair Management Australia Holden started the race in the rear, however after turn 4 Matt Campbell in the #97 Holden Red Bull Racing Team Holden was spun into the fence at Turn 4 by Taz Douglas in the #3 Gemini/Repair Management Australia Holden, also making contact with Todd Hazelwood in the #4 Cooldrive Distribution/Norm Beechey 65 Tribute, dropping him to the rear.

Just one lap layer, Taz Douglas in the #3 Gemini/Repair Management Australia Holden suffered door damage on lap 2, forcing him to the garage, dropping him to the rear on lap 3.

On lap 19, there was an almighty crash between Jonathon Webb in the #19 Woodstock Bourbon Holden and Todd Hazelwood in the #4 Cooldrive Distribution/Norm Beechey 65 tribute Holden, sending Webb into the tires and Hazelwood flipping wildly into the air, before landing before bouncing multiple times on the ground, continuing to spin as he landed. Hazelwod was OK, but car #4 was a total write off. The Red Flag caused a 1 lap drop-back, leaving the drivers where they were a lap earlier.

Splitting Webb and Hazelwood was David Russell in the #78 Harvey Norman/LG Super UHD/R380 Tribute Nissan.
