Transaxle failure leaves Mostert last at Winton

Chazz Mostert picked up his 2nd last-place finish of his career when his #55 Supercheap Auto Ford retired with a Tailshaft failure after 13 of the race's 40 laps. The finish came in Mostert's 127th race start.

Alex Rullo started the race in the rear in the #62 Repair Management/Castrol Holden, and held last until James Courtney in the #22 Mobil 1 HSV Racing/Boost Holden was spun by James Moffat in the #34 Wilson Security Holden at turn 10. By lap 4 James Golding in the #31 Wilson Security Holden had fallen to the rear.

During the pit-stop sequence starting on lap 5 last-place switched between Jason Bright in the #56 Mega Bulk Fuels Ford, Simona De Silvestro in the #78 Harvey Norman Nissan then Cameron Waters in the #6 Monster Energy Ford fell to last after a drive-through penalty on lap 6 for speeding in the pit-lane on lap 6.

Waters held last until lap 15 when Chazz Mostert in the #55 Supercheap Auto Ford broke a Transaxle, dropping him to last, out of the race. The only other retirement of the race was James Courtney in the #22 Mobil 1 HSV Racing/Boost Holden, who spun out of the race on the final lap after contact with Nick Percat in the #8 Freightliner/Adelaide Holden at turn 5.

Rounding out the bottom five was Tim Slade in the #14 Freightliner Holden after a pit-lane penalty for contact with Rick Kelly in the #15 Sengled/Castrol Nissan, Jason Bright in the #56 - Ford after a late-race spin and Alex Rullo in the #62 Repair Management/Castrol Holden.

Out of the three wildcards, James Golding in the #31 Wilson Security Holden finished 17th, Shae Davies in the #26 Loco Energy Drink/Davbridge Nissan finished 19th and Macauley Jones in the #4 Drillpro Services/NBS Holden finished 20th.
