Mid-race contact leaves Ryan Wood last at Townsville

Credit: Supercars

Ryan Wood (#2 Truck Assist/NTI Toyota) would finish last for the 4th time in his career. The finish came after mid-race contact left him 8 laps down in the 2nd race at Townsville. The finish came in Wood’s 78th start, and his 2nd last-place finish of the year.

Ryan Wood had a tough start to his career, scoring back-to-back last-place finishes at Bathurst in 2024. Since then, he won Rookie of the Year in 2024, won his first race at Barbagallo in 2025, towards 10th in the Championship. This year his team switched to Toyota. Wood currently sits seventh in the championship with a win and four podiums. Ryan Wood was 8th in practice, then rocketed to 3rd in qualifying. Wood slipped to 4th in the Top 10 Shootout.

Declan Fraser (#777 Nulon Chevrolet) started last. But shortly after the start, Aaron Seton (#30 Superior Cranes) slipped to last.

James Golding (#7 Cooldrive Distribution Ford) suffered major right-rear damage on the exit of Turn 2. By Turn 11, Golding blew the right-rear tire, forcing a pit-stop that dropped him to last.

By lap 5, Golding was 43 seconds behind 25th place Cameron Hill (#14 Sinopec Toyota), who was another 4.5 seconds behind the tail end of the field.

Reuben Goodall (#5 MG Plaseteres Ford) left the track and gained an advantage on the opening lap. Then, on lap 11, he spun Zach Bates (#10 Bendix Chevrolet) at Turn 13, plunging Bates to 24th.

Pit stops started on lap 19 with Rylan Grey (#38 Shell V-Power Ford). However, Gray rejoined the track just in front of Golding.

Cameron Hill (#14 Sinopec Toyota) suffered major front-end damage on Lap 1. Hill would drop a lap while the team worked on his car.

By half-way, all 26 cars were still running. Hill was last, 31 seconds behind Reuben Goodall, who was a further 20 seconds behind James Golding. All three are a lap down.

Will Brown (#888 Red Bull/Ampol Chevrolet) copped a tire rub after contact from Ryan Wood (#2 Truck Assist/NTI Toyota)

Kai Allen (#26 Penrite Ford) collided with Ryan Wood (#2 Truck Assist Toyota). The collision broke the steering on Wood’s car. The collision cost Wood 7 laps. With no retirements or other mechanical issues, Wood finished last.

Cameron Hill (#14 Sinopec Toyota) lost a second lap late in the race and finished 25th.

Reuben Goodall (#5 MG Plasterers Ford), Aaron Seton (#30 Superior Cranes Chevrolet), and James Golding (#7 Cooldrive Distribution Ford).
