Macauley Jones picked up the 8th last-place finish of his career when his #96 Coca-Cola Holden was involved in a single-car crash that ended his race after 17 of the race's 39 laps. The finish came in Jones' 99th start.
Macauley Jones is in his 3rd full-time season, though he has run as Co-Driver for several years beforehand. He was 21st in the only Practice of the round but skyrocketed to an impressive 8th in Qualifying.
Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden started the race in the rear after a penalty for impeding in Qualifying, and initially held last place.
On Lap 4 he overtook Andre Heimgartner in the #7 NED Ford, dropping Andre to last.
Tim Slade in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Holden was the first to pit on lap 5, dropping to the rear. He was followed into the pits by Zane Goddard in the #35 Yellow Cover Holden, who dropped to the rear on lap 9. Pitstops continued, and left Garry Jacobson in the #22 Premair Hire Holden last by Lap 15. The following lap Andre Heimgartner in the #7 NED Ford pitted and fell to last.
Suddenly, on lap 17 Macauley Jones in the #96 Coca-Cola Holden crashed at Turn 10, plunging to last and triggering the first Safety Car of the race.
Rounding out the Bottom Five was David Reynolds in the #26 Penrite Oils Holden after crashing at Turn 8 on lap 27, losing 7 laps in repairs, Tim Slade in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Holden after a 15 second penalty for an incident with Brodie Kostecki, Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden and Fabian Coulthard in the #19 Local Legends Holden
