Zane Goddard picked up the 4th last-place finish of his career when his #35 Yellow Cover Holden finished under power, 11 laps down in the first race at Townsville. The finish came in Goddard’s 30th start.
After sharing with Jake Kostecki in 2020, Zane Goddard moved to a full-time race in 2021. He impressed with 10th in Practice 1, then slid to 17th in Practice 2. He slipped slightly further to 18th in Qualifying.
Garry Jacobson in the #22 Premair Hire Holden started the race in the rear, but during the formation Lap Fabian Coulthard in the #19 Local Legends Heat Sauce Holden stalled and had to be towed off the track, falling to last with a battery issue, starting from the pit lane.
Towards the end of Lap 2 Coulthard was able to catch and pass Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden, dropping Smith to last.
By the end of Lap 7 Coulthard had fallen back to last.
Lap 11 saw Zane Goddard in the #35 Yellow Cover Holden hitting the fence at turn 10 after contact with Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden, sending Goddard into the wall, into the garage and down to last, losing 9 laps in repairs.
During the race, two drivers challenged for the last-place crown but fell a few laps short. Firstly, on lap 55, Scott Pye in the #20 DeWalt Holden challenged, losing 7 laps in the Garage after a Turn 8 Steering failure. Then, Todd Hazelwood in the #14 Pizza Hut Holden pulled into the Garage with a Power Steering drama on lap 58, losing 7 laps. Pye would lose 2 laps later, but finished a lap and a half ahead of Goddard.
Rounding out the Bottom Five was Fabian Coulthard in the #19 Local Legends Heat Sauce Holden after the Battery issue, and teammate Garry Jacobson in the #22 Premair Hire Holden.
