Andre Heimgartner picked up his 5th last-place finish of his career when his #7 NED Ford finished under power, on the lead lap in the first race of the second round at Townsville. The finish came in Heimgartner's 143rd start.
Andre Heimgartner is in his 5th full-time season. He was 6th in Practice 1 but slid down to 20th in Practice 2. He had an issue in qualifying and started last.
Andre Heimgartner in the #7 NED Ford started the race in the rear after issues in qualifying, but got past Anton De Pasquale in the #99 Penrite Oils Holden, then Chris Pither in the #22 Coca-Cola Holden fell to the rear. De Pasquale returned to last near the end of lap 3. Anton would head into the pit-lane on lap 7, dropping even further back.
When pit-stops start, Chris Pither in the #22 Coca-Cola Holden pits and returns to last. Lap 17 sees Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden pitted and dropped to last. The following lap saw Jake Kostecki in the #34 UNIT Holden pitted and fell to last, but within a couple of laps, he had gotten back past Smith. Kostecki and Smith would continue to fight for the last place for several laps.
On lap 22 Garry Jacobson in the #35 Yellow Cover Holden pitted and fell to the rear, then passed Kostecki and dropped him to last on Lap 23. Finally, Andre Heimgartner in the #7 NED Ford fell to the rear by Lap 26 after his pitstop and stayed there the remainder of the race.
Rounding out the Bottom Five was Jake Kostecki in the #34 UNIT Holden, Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden, Chris Pither in the #22 Coca-Cola Holden and Fabian Coulthard in the #12 Shell V-Power Ford.
