Lee Holdsworth picked up his 16th last-place finish of his career when his #5 Truck Assist Ford retired with Suspension damage from a 3-car incident after 2 of the race's 32 laps. The finish came in Holdsworth's 469th start.
Lee Holdsworth is a veteran of the sport, with this being his 15th full-time season. He was 6th in Practice 1, but slid to 13th in Practice 2. He held 13th for Qualifying.
Jake Kostecki in the #34 UNIT Holden started the race in the rear but by Turn 8 Chris Pither in the #22 Coca-Cola Holden had fallen to the rear.
Contact at the last corner send Macauley Jones in the # Cooldrive Distribution Holden off the road and down to last after being pushed off the road along with Garry Jacobson in the #35 Yellow Cover Holden by Lee Holdsworth in the #5 Truck Assist Ford, with Holdsworth suffering Suspension damage as a result, dropping Holdsworth to last. Jacobson would follow Holdsworth into the garage on lap 5.
David Reynolds in the #9 Penrite Oils Holden retired with Transaxle failure and Fabian Coulthard in the #12 Shell V-Power Ford retired with a broken Input Shaft on the same lap triggered the first Safety car of the race.
Rounding out the Bottom Five was Scott Pye in the #20 DeWalt Tools Holden after a late-race flat tire.
