James Moffat picked up his 14th last-place finish of his career when his
#55 Supercheap Auto Ford, usually driven by Chaz Mostert, was involved in a
two-car crash that ended his race after 13 of the race's 20 laps. The finish
came in Moffat's 227th start.
James Moffat has been racing for 10 years, though only 7 of those
full-time, including this year. He was 7th in Practice 1 but rose to 4th in
Practice 1. Moffat fell to 8th in Practice 3, then slipped farther to 9th in
Practice 4. Mostert then qualified 7th.
Dean Canto in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden started the race in
the rear, but early on he shared last-place with Jack Smith in the #35 Sherrin
Rentals Holden for the early stages of the race, with Smith steadily falling
back as the race went on.
However, at turn 1 on lap 12, while battling with Alex Premat in the #12
Shell V-Poer Ford and Thomas Randle in the #5 Bottle-O/Super Service Ford,
James Moffat in the #55 Supercheap Auto Ford got wide, then slammed into the
side of Randle, sending Moffat's #55 on a wild ride with broken Suspension. He
limped back to the garage, but the damage was too severe.
Rounding out the bottom five was Jack Smith in the #35 Sherrin Rentals
Holden after a late-race spin, Ash Walsh in the #14 Freightliner Trucks Holden,
Dean Canto in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Ford and Jake Kostecki in the #56
Boost Mobile Holden.
