David Reynolds picked up his 10th last-place finish of his career, while
Luke Youlden picked up his only last-place finish of his career, when their #9
Penrite Oils Holden was involved in a 2-car crash that ended their race after
30 of the race's 161 laps. The finish came in Reynolds' 314th start, and
Youlden's 56th start.
David Reynolds is in his 10th year in the supercars full-time and has
shined at Erebus Motorsports in the last couple of years. Luke Youlden,
meanwhile, has been co-driving for twenty years, but never has run a full
season. They were 8th in Practice 1, fastest in Practice 2, fell to 14th in
Practice 3, but rose to 7th in practice 4. They qualified 8th, finished 7th in
the first Qualifying race, but finish the 2nd race in 3rd.
Alex Premat, driving Scott McLaughlin's #17 Shell V-Power Ford started
the race in the rear, however Will Brown, driving Anton De Pasquale's #99
Penrite Oils Holden stalled at the start, falling to the rear. During the first
lap Alex Davison, driving Will Davison's #23 Milwakee Ford and Jonathon Webb,
driving Jack LeBrocq's #19 Truck Asisst Holden battled for last, which
eventually left Wbb last.
Then on lap 4 Richard Muscat, driving James Golding's #34 Boost Mobile
Holden spun Tony D'Alberto, driving Fabian Coulthard's #12 Shell V-Power Ford
at turn 11, sending D'Alberto to last.
A couple of laps later Ash Walsh, driving Tim Slade's #14 Freightliner
Holden pitted with damage to the left-front, dropping to last, a lap down.
Suddenly, on lap 30, Luke Youlden, driving David Reynolds' #9 Penrite
Oils Holden spins Dale Wood, driving Rick Kelly's #15 Sengled Nissan into the
fence on the back straight. Bouncing off the wall, Wood collides again with
Youlden, severely damaging both cars. With Youlden getting back first, Dale
Wood fell to last. However, the team got car #15 back on track, 31 laps down,
and so Reynolds and Youlden dropped to last on lap 62. Kelly and Wood would
lose 2 more laps over the course of the race.
Next to fall out was Garry Jacobson and Dean Fiore in the #3 Rabble.club
Nissan, brake issues initially, then engine issues ending car #3’s race.
Following car #3 out was James Golding and Richard Muscat in the #34 Boost
Mobile Holden with Driveline issues. Rounding out the bottom 5 was Rounding out
the bottom five was Cameron Waters and Michael Caruso in the #6 Monster Energy
Ford, after bouncing off Jake Kostecki in the #56 Boost Mobile Holden, sending
car #6 into the wall at turn 4, losing 14 laps in repairs, and finished down 16
laps.
