Engine failure leaves Murray last at Barbagallo

Original by Supercars, edited by me.

Cooper Murray (#99 Vibe Chevrolet) picked up the 4th last-place finish of his career after retiring with Engine failure after 62 of the race’s 83 laps. The finish came in Murray’s 21st start.

A strong driver, Cooper Murray, finished 4th for Eggleston Motorsports in 2023, achieving 2 wins and 4 podiums. He was a co-driver for Sandown and Bathurst in 2024. At Hidden Valley, Heimgartner’s first-lap contact relegated a wildcard Murray to last-place. With Jack LeBrocq withdrawing from the Adelaide race for the impending arrival of his child, Cooper Murray replaced him. He got his 2nd last-place finish here after a mechanical failure left him several laps down. For 2025, Murray would be a teammate to Jack LeBrocq, replacing the departing Brodie Kostecki. It has been a difficult rookie season for Murray, having already secured one last-place finish after crashing out at the Albert Park race.

Jaxon Evans (#12 SCT Logistics Chevrolet) started the race in the rear after a qualifying mishap meant he didn’t record a time. On the formation lap, Cameron Hill (#4 SupaGlass Chevrolet) stalled. Mechanics changed Hill’s alternator, causing him to lose 8 laps.

For most of the race, Hill would be last. However, on lap 60, Cooper Murray’s (#99 Vibe Chevrolet) retired with Engine failure, coming to a halt at Turn 6, triggering the race’s only Safety Car.

On lap 75, a collision between Ryan Wood (#2 Mobile 1/NTI Ford) and James Golding (#31 Nulon Chevrolet) sent Wood off the road and out of the race. Golding would go off again to Turn 6, but would limp pack to the pits. Repairs would cost Golding 5 laps. A pit-lane penalty cost Golding an additional lap. Lochie Dalton (#5 Recycal Ford) would round out the Bottom five.
