Scott Pye picked up the 19th last-place finish of his career when his #20 Nulon/Toyota Forklifts Holden was involved in a 2-car crash that ended his race without completing a single lap of the 88 laps of the second race at Townsville. The finish came in Pye's 297th start and puts Pye two races ahead in the last-place Championship.
To say it has been a difficult season for Scott Pye would be an understatement. As this blog has documented, this is Scott Pye's 5th last-place finish this year and has missed two races this year due to major crashes. He was 3rd in Practice 1, but dropped to 10th in Practice 2. He rose to 9th in Qualifying and improved further to 8th in the Top 10 Shootout.
Nick Percat in the #2 NTI/Mobil 1 Holden started the race in the rear, but Will Davison in the #17 Shell V-Power Ford turned Scott Pye in the #20 Nulon/Toyota Forklifts Holden, ending Pye's race and sending him to last.
next off was Jake Kostecki in the #56 Tradie Ford, after contact with Will Brown in the #9 Boost Mobile Holden, Jack LeBrocq in the #34 Truck Assist Holden among others, damaging the steering on car #56, losing 6 laps in repairs, and 2 laps during the race, for 8 laps overall.
Lee Holdsworth in the #10 Penrite Oils Ford was given a drive-through penalty for ignoring Blue Flags for Chaz Mostert in the #25 Optus/Mobile 1 Holden, leaving him 24th. Rounding out the Bottom Five were Macauley Jones in the #96 Pizza Hut Holden and James Golding in the #31 Subway Holden.
