Zak Best picked up the 2nd last-place finish of his career when his unsponsored #78 Ford retired with a windscreen wiper failure after 5 of the race's 24 laps. The finish came in Best's 7th start.
Zak Best is a wildcard this year, running at two events. He's already finished last once, after being taken out by Garry Jacobson at Hiden Valley. He was 3rd in Practice 1 but dropped to 9th in Practice 2. He qualified on pole for the first race, an incredible achievement, and even held his own for a time, before finishing 5th. He qualified 7th in this race.
The field shrunk to 25 cars after the massive crash in Race 2. David Reynolds in the #26 Penrite Ford started the race in the rear after a mistake in Qualifying and held last during the Safety Car start.
Chris Pither in the #22 Coca-Cola Holden fell to last just after the start of Lap 2.
The first retirement came from Zack Best in the unsponsored #78 Ford when he pulled into the garage on Lap 5 with a broken windscreen wiper. Just a lap later, several cars crashed at Turn 6, including teammates Jack LeBrocq in the #34 Truck Assist Holden and Todd Hazelwood in the #35 Truck Assist Holden, ending the former’s race.
The final retirement of the race came from Jake Kostecki in the #56 Tradie Ford got a Mechanical Black Flag on Lap 8, and pulled into the garage with a broken front bar, and although he got back out, he completed an insufficient amount of laps to be classified as a finisher.
Rounding out the Bottom Five was David Reynolds in the #26 Penrite Ford after he aquaplaned into the back of James Golding in the #31 Subway Holden about Lap 13, and pulled into the garage on Lap 16, dropping 4 laps in repairs and Todd Hazelwood in the #35 Truck Assist Holden.
Despite being
crashed into by Reynolds, James Golding managed to finish 14th.
And after fixing his car after his part in the massive crash at the
start of Race 2, Nick Percat in the #2 NTI/Mobil 1 Holden finished
9th.
