So, NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Kyle Larson has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR and suspended without pay by Chip Ganassi Racing after using a racial slur during a NASCAR affiliated IRacing event.
Said IRacing event was called Monza Madness, which is a IRacing event organised by Landon Cassill and streamed via the offical eNASCAR website as well as several other drivers' Twitch accounts. There were a large list of high profile drivers contesting the event, including drivers from Formula 1, NASCAR IndyCar and other racing disciplines.
Here is the exchange
Larson to Bubba ?You got me??
Larson to Bubba ?You don't hear me, at all??
Larson to Bubba ?I can see it, you can't hear me??
Larson to Bubba ?Hey N***er!?
Aron MacEachern ?Wow?
Anthony Alfredo ?Kyle you're talking to everyone bud.?
So, NASCAR has for a long time been trying to shake off the perception of "Southern White Racist Redneck Motorsport" that it has had for the longest time. The Drive for Diversity program is an example of this. Usage of that word does not help shake the perception, and that may explain why the fallout has been so huge.
Indefinite suspensions dished out by NASCAR, IRacing and Chip Ganassi Racing
Most of his sponsors have abandoned him.
Kyle Larson will also have to attend "sensitivity training" (I don't know what that entails).
Big Yikes moment here for Kyle Larson. He has apologised for his language. This, is going to hurt. As I said before, NASCAR has been trying to shake the racist white southerner stereotype for a long time, and this doesn't help that image. The actions taken against Kyle Larson may do it, but I doubt it, ignorant reactionaries are everywhere in the US, so I don't know how much this will affect change.
It's a surprise this has happened, and the fallout is big, but we'll have to see if/when Kylr Larson returns to Chip Ganassi, NASCAR and/or IRacing.
