Kai Allen (#26
Penrite Oils Ford) finished last for the 3rd time. The finish came after
electrical issues left him 2 laps down in the 85 lap first race on the Gold
Coast. The finish came in Allen’s 65th start.
Kai Allen is in
his 2nd year full-time. While coming up through the ranks, Allen ran Super 3
and Super 2, finishing all 3 years 3rd or better. This included winning the
championship as a rookie in 2023 for Eggleston Motorsports. Allen would race
2023 and 2024 as a co-driver for Dick Johnson Racing.
Allen would
debut for Grove Racing in 2024 after Richie Stanaway withdrew because of
concussion caused by a qualifying crash Saturday.
Allen would
then race full time for Grove Racing starting in 2025, finishing 4th in The
Chase.
Allen was 17th
in Practice 1. Then skyrocketed to 4th in Practice 2 before Allen slipped to
9th in Qualifying. Allen was 9th in the top 10 shootout. A kerb strike for Ryan
Wood and an impeding penalty for Will Brown, Allen would start 7th.
Jackson Walls
(#11 Objective Ford) started last. Because of the rain, the race started under
Safety Car.
The race
officially started on Lap 4. Lap 6 saw Jackson Walls pit, falling 35 seconds
behind 23rd Jayden Ojeda (#31 Nulon Chevrolet).
The first
incident of the race came at Lap 10 at Turn 4, when Cameron Hill (#14 Dare
Toyota) hit Jack LeBrocq (#4 Sherrin Rentals Chevrolet), sending the latter
spinning. They’d fall to 21st and 22nd. Stewards would penalise #14 `15
seconds.
Pit stops start
Lap 17 with Zach Bates (#10 Bendix Chevrolet) and Jayden Ojeda (#31 Premiair
Hire/Nulon Chevrolet) pitting.
Ojeda would
drop behind Walls shortly after.
Cameron Waters
(#6 Monster Energy Ford) and Jack LeBrocq pitted on Lap 20. LeBrocq would drop
to last. Jobe Stewart (#9 Hope Chevrolet) pitted on Lap 24, dropping to last.
Stewart would
hold 24th and last for 24 laps. Only when the second round of pit stops started
would Stewart rise above last. Ryan Wood (#2 Truck Assist Toyota) pitted on Lap
48, dropping to last. Jack LeBrocq pitted a lap later and fell behind Wood.
Thomas Randle pitted on Lap 56, dropping him to last.
Randle would
hold last until Lap 70, when Kai Allen had an unscheduled pit stop with
Alternator issues, dropping Allen to last. Allen would lose 2 laps in repairs.
Jack LeBrocq
(#4 Sherrin Rentals Chevrolet) would finish 22nd. After a wild moment across
the chicanes and a pit-lane penalty for the team refuelling the fuel tower,
Aaron Cameron would finish 21st. Jobe Stewart would complete the bottom five.
