Late race tire loss leaves Cameron Waters last at Hidden Valley

Original by supercarxtra.com, cropped by me.

Cameron Waters (#6 Monster Energy Ford) finished last at Hidden Valley, a lap down, after a wheel came off with 3 laps to go. The finish came after Waters’ 327th start.

A veteran of the sport, Cameron Waters’ career began in 2011 when he won Shannon’s Supercar Showdown and debuted at Bathurst. However, he would crash early, and would finish 2nd last, too many laps down to be classified. Ten seasons later, Cameron Waters has finished second in the championship twice and has 18 race wins. Waters was 9th in Practice 1 and rose to 6th in Practice 2. Waters would crash to 16th in qualifying.

Although Aaron Cameron began the race in the last position, Chaz Mostert’s stall on the formation lap and subsequent pit lane start relegated him to last.

Raylan Gray (#5 Koan Services Ford) would go off at Turn 1 on Lap 5, allowing Mostert past.

The first set of pit stops started on Lap 15 with James Courtney (#7 Snowy River Caravans Ford) pitting and falling to last. Will Davison (#17 Shell V-Power Ford) pitted on Lap 18, he fell behind Courtney. Davison was ahead of Macauley Jones (#96 Pizza Hut Chevrolet), but a slow stop allowed Jones to jump him. A lap later, Aaron Cameron (#3 Cooldrive Distribution Ford) pitted and fell behind Davison.

Aaron Cameron would remain last until lap 30 when Thomas Randle (#55 Castrol Ford) pitted and fell behind Cameron.

Rylan Grey (#5 Koan Services Ford) pitted the following lap and fell behind Randle.

Lap 38 saw Cameron fall to last after being overtaken by Gray.

Chaz Mostert returned to last on Lap 41, but overtook Cameron.

The second round of pit stops started on Lap 42, with Anton De Pasquale (#18 DeWalt Chevrolet) pitted and fell behind Cameron.

The following lap, Ryan Wood (#2 Truck Assist Ford) pitted and fell behind De Pasquale.

David Reynolds (#20 Tradie Chevrolet) pitted on Lap 44 and fell behind Wood.

Will Davison (#17 Shell V-Power Ford) punted James Courtney, and copped a 15-second time penalty for it, which he served at his second pit stop, leaving him last.

Aaron Cameron’s second pit stop on Lap 47 dropped him behind Davison.

Lap 54 saw Rylan Gray in for his second pit stop, dropping him to last. Will Davison went off on Lap 45 and fell to last.

With just 3 laps to go, Cameron Waters (#6 Monster Energy Ford) lost a left-rear tire and spun. The time to get him to the pits and new tire on left him last.

Will Davison (#17), Aaron Cameron (#3), Rylan Gray (#5), and James Courtney (#7) rounded out the bottom five.
