Garry Jacobson picked up the 13th last-place finish of his career when his #76 Subway Holden retired with Transaxle failure after 39 of the race's 46 laps. The finish came in Jacobson's 106th start.
Garry Jacobson is in his 4th full-time season, and started with Kelly Racing for his full-time rookie year, before moving to Matt Stone Racing, then to Team Sydney, and its successor PremAir Racing.
Nick Percat in the #2 NTI/Mobil 1 Holden started the race in the rear, but Thomas Randle in the #55 Castrol Ford was spun out by Mark Winterbottom in the #18 Irwin Tools/Fuchs Holden, sending Randle to the rear, then Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden fell to last by the end of Lap 2.
The first pitstop was Nick Percat in the #2 NTI/Mobile 1 Holden was pitted on Lap 11 and fell to the rear. Jack LeBrocq pitted on Lap 13 and fell to the rear. Chris Pither in the #22 Coca-Cola Holden then dropped to last after his pitstop on Lap 16. Lap 22 saw Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden pit and fall to last. Mark Winterbottom in the #18 Irwin Tools/Fuchs Holden pitted on Lap 28 and, after serving his 15-second penalty, fell to last.
The day went from bad to worse for Thomas Randle in the #55 Castrol Ford went off at Turn 1 on Lap 29, then pitted Lap 30 and fell to last.
Lap 41 saw Garry Jacobson in the #76 Subway Holden stopped on track with a Transaxle failure on Lap 41, triggering the only Safety Car of the race.
Next out of the race was Jake Kostecki in the #56 Tradie Ford after being taken out by cousin Brodie Kostecki in the #99 Boost Mobile Holden, the latter got a pit-lane penalty, leaving him Bottom 5, split by Thomas Randle in the #55 Castrol Ford. Rounding out the Bottom Five was Mark Winterbottom in the #18 Irwin Tools/Fuchs Holden.
