Chaz Mostert picked up his 4th last-place finish of his career when his
#55 Supercheap Auto Ford retired with Engine failure after 27 of the race's 83
laps. The finish came in Mostert's 186th start.
Mostert has been around full-time for as long as I have been doing this
LASTCAR blog, 2014, though he did also do a 2/3rd season last year, and he
missed the last third of 2015 with a broken leg. He was 2nd in Practice 1,
stayed 2nd in Practice 2, then slipped to 3rd in Practice 3, but held 3rd for
Qualifying.
Jack LeBrocq in the #19 Truck Assist Holden started the race in the rear,
but by turn 2 Garry Jacobson in the #3 Rabble.club Nissan fell to the rear, and
they fought for last early in the race. Soon, LeBrocq pits on lap 8 and really
falls back, dropping a lap.
LeBrocq held last until Richie Stanaway in the #33 Wilson Security Holden
pitted and dropped to the rear, struggling with tire and radio issues.
The race for last-place ended on lap 27, however, when Chazz Mostert in
the #55 Supercheap Auto Ford, car #55 dropped a cylinder on lap 15, then
retired with engine failure on lap 27, dropping to last in the process.
Next out was Scott Pye in the #2 Mobil 1/Mega Bulk Fuels/Mobile Truck
Washing Holden after a collision with Andre Heimgartner in the #7 Plus Fitness
Nissan at turn 7 on lap 47, breaking the Suspension on car #2 and damaging the
left-rear on Heimgartner's car, dropping 2 laps in repairs for Heimgartner, but
also terminally damaging Pye's car, triggering the only safety car of the race.
Rounding out the bottom five was Jack LeBrocq in the #19 Truck Assist
Holden and Richie Stanaway in the #33 Boost Mobile Holden after a long first
pit-stop due to tire and communication problems.
