Todd Hazelwood picked up his 2nd last-place finish of his career when his
#35 BigMate/Optus Ford finished under power, 5 laps down in the first race at
Queensland Raceway in Ipswich. The finish came in Hazelwood's 24th start.
Hazelwood is in his rookie season in the main game, but it has been a big
struggle for both driver and team. He was 24th in Practice 1 but fell to the
slowest in Practice 2. He improved to 22nd in Practice 3, then qualified 24th.
Kurt Kostecki in the #42 Acroplate Holden started the race in the rear,
but by the end of lap 1 Tim Blanchard in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden
had fallen to the rear. Blanchard held last until lap 6 when Todd Hazelwood in
the #35 BigMate/Optus Ford fell to the rear.
Hazewlood held last until lap 9 when Chaz Mostert in the #55 Supercheap
Auto Ford pitted, dropping to the rear. Mostert held last until lap 12 when
Craig Lowndes in the #888 Autobahn/HP Holden pitted, falling to last. Lowndes
held last until lap 14 when David Reynolds in the #9 Penrite Oils Holden
pitted, dropping to the rear. Hazelwood returned to last on lap 16 during his
pit-stop.
Disaster strikes for Anton De Pasquale in the unsponsored #99 Erebus
Holden, his left-front tire not tightened properly, forcing another pitstop,
dropping him to the rear. De Pasquale wouldn't go up past 26th.
Hazelwood would return to last from lap 25 after electrical issues cost
them 5 laps in the garage, leaving Hazelwood in the rear.
Rounding out the bottom five was Kurt Kostecki in the #42 Arcoplate Holden,
Lee Holdsworth in the #18 Preston Hire/Fuchs Holden and Tim Blanchard in the
#21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden.
