First lap shunt leaves Todd Kelly last at Townsville

Todd Kelly picked up his 25th last place finish of his career when his #7 carsales.com/boatsales.com Nissan retired with crash damage after 34 of the race's 70 laps. The finish came in Todd's 533rd start.

Alex Rullo in the #62 Repair Management/Castrol Holden started the race in the rear, however at turn 2 on the opening lap James Moffat in the #34 Wilson Security Holden ran into the back of Todd Kelly in the #7 carsales.com.au/boatsales.com.au Nissan, pushing Todd into Garth Tander in the #33 Wilson Security Holden, who then runs into the back of Tim Slade in the #14 Freightlinder Holden, who then ran up the back of, and spun, Fabian Coulthard in the #12 Shell V-Power Ford. In the resulting concertina Coulthard bumped the side of Lee Holdsworth in the #18 Preston Hire/Fuchs Holden, briefly knocking the door open on car #18. Further contact between Slade and both James Courtney in the #22 Mobil 1 HSV Racing/Boost Mobile Holden and Scott Pye in the #2 Mobil 1 HSV Racing Holden severely damaged Courtney's car, and more contact between Tander, Coulthard, Todd and Jason Bright in the #56 Mega Bulk Fuels Ford damaged several cars. Todd Kelly and James Courtney were forced to the garage, with Courtney losing 8 laps, eventually 10, and Todd Kelly losing 9 laps, eventually the right-front damage destroying the right-front tire proved too much, and after multiple additional trips to the garage Todd retired on lap 56.

Rounding out the bottom five was Nick Percat in the #8 McHitch/Adelaide Holden, losing 8 laps with crashing while trying to pass Will Davison in the #19 Woodstock Bourbon Holden on lap 26, Jason Bright in the #56 Mega Bulk Fuels Ford, losing 2 laps in the lap 1 incident and Aaren Russell in the #62 Repair Maganement Australia Holden.
