Early race collision and complete mechanical failure leaves Ryan Wood last at Hidden Valley

Credit: Supercars
Ryan Wood (#2 Truck Assist/NTI Toyota) would finish last for the 3rd time in his career. The finish came after a total mechanical failure after 4 of the race’s 70 laps. The finish came in Wood’s 74th start.

The last time Wood finished last was back-to-back last-place finishes at Bathurst in 2024. Since then, he won Rookie of the Year in 2024, won his first race at Barbagallo in 2025, towards 10th in the Championship. This year his team switched to Toyota. Wood currently sits seventh in the championship with a win and four podiums. Wood was 17th in the only practice session, and after brake failure late in qualifying, Wood would start 17th.

Macauley Jones (Dormer HVAC Toyota) started the race last. Rylan Gray (#38 Shell V-Power Ford) got pushed off the road exiting Turn 1, dropping to last.

Lap 2 saw Cameron Hill (#14 FGI Toyota) run off at Turn 1, dropping to last.

The race for last place would end 4 laps in, after Declan Fraser (#777 Nulon Chevrolet) collided with Ryan Wood (#2 Truck Assist/NTI Toyota). The collision completely took out the mechanics of the car, sending him to the garage and ending his race.

The rest of the Bottom Five would take all race to decide. However, penalties and pit-road issues would fill two spots.

Pit stops would cycle 23rd through several drivers. But after the first round, Jobe Stewart (#9 Solo Energy/7-Eleven Chevrolet) would drop to second-last. Stewart would finish there.

Zach Bates (#10 Bendix Chevrolet) went off at turn 5 after attempting a pass on James Golding (#7 Adventure Industries Ford).

Bates unsafely returned to the track. That led to Declan Fraser (#777 Nulon Chevrolet) spinning off the track on the ripple strip at Turn 6.

This would be the start of Bates’ problems. His team wouldn’t serve the penalty correctly at his second pit stop. Stewards would penalise him a further 5 seconds. This meant Bates lost 34 seconds in total and finished 22nd.

The bottom five filled up with Aaron Cameron (#3 Liqui Moly Ford) and Jackson Walls (#11 Objective Ford).
