Cameron Crick picked up the 1st last-place finish
of his career when his #35 Dormer/Able Door Services Chevrolet finished under
power, on the lead lap in the first race at the Sydney Motorsports Park. The
finish came in Crick’s 3rd start.
Cameron Crick is an up-and-coming driver in motorsport,
having had some solid results in Toyota 86's and SuperUtes. He is the son of
six-time Australian Truck Racing Champion Rodney Crick and has run two seasons
in Super 2. He scored his first Top 10 in the Supercars last year driving
alongside Cameron Hill at Matt Stone Racing during the Bathurst 1000. This year
Crick is running a wildcard campaign for Matt Stone Racing, piloting the #35. He
was 23rd in Practice but qualified slowest. However, he wouldn't start last due to a very close call between James Golding in the #31 Nulon Chevrolet and Macauley Jones in the #96 Pizza Hut Chevrolet.
The near-miss would result in a grid place penalty for Jones, leaving him starting last instead. Jones would hold last
for the first lap. Starting Lap 2, however, wildcard Camron Crick in the #35
Dormer/Able Door Services Chevrolet was overtaken by Macauley Jones, dropping
him to last. Pitstops start on Lap 5, and Kai Allen in the #26 Penrite Oils
Ford pitted first and fell to last. Lap 7 saw Richie Stanaway in the #62 Nulon
Chevrolet pitted for four tyres and dropped to last.
On lap 10, Nulon Racing teammates Stanaway and Golding got together and knocked each other to the last two, with Golding holding last.
Lap 12 Broc Feeney in the #88 Red Bull/Ampol Chevrolet
punctured a left-rear tyre, forcing him to pit. Combined with a cross-threaded
wheel nut, it dropped Feeney to last. Finally, on Lap 14 Cameron Crick pitted and
returned to last place. Aaron Love in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Ford would
finally pit on Lap 16 and drop to last. It would take until the final lap
before Love would overtake Crick, leaving the latter last.
Rounding out the Bottom Five was Aaron Love in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution
Ford, Richie Stanaway in the #62 Nulon Chevrolet, James Golding in the #31
Nulon Chevrolet, and Will Davison in the #17 Shell V-Power Ford.
