Jaxon Evans picked up his 3rd last-place finish of his career when his #12 SCT Logistics Chevrolet was involved in a 2-car crash that ended his race after 19 of the race’s 55 laps. The finish came in Evans’ 21st start. This last-place finish leaves Evans the clear leader of the 2024 Repco Superlastcar Championship.
Jaxon Evans joined Brad Jones Racing in 2024 after being
co-driver for Jack Smith in 2022 and 2023. Evans replaced Smith after outpacing
him at Bathurst. Evans has been doing OK during the 2024 season, though he has
a last-place finish from Albert Park. Evans’ best finish is 10th at TaupÅ and
11th at Hidden Valley. He was 21st in Practice 1, then improved to 19th in
Practice 2 before improving slightly to 18th in Qualifying.
Nick Percat in the #10 Bendix Chevrolet started the race in
the rear, but quickly Macauley Jones in the #96 Pizza Hut Chevrolet dropped to
last. Cameron Hill in the #4 Supaglass Chevrolet locked up at Turn 6 on Lap 1,
dropping him to the rear of the field.
David Reynolds in the #20 Teadie Chevrolet was turned onto
the bank at Turn 4 by Brodie Kostecki in the #1 SS Signs Chevrolet on Lap 8,
triggering the first Safety Car of the race.
The following lap, during the pitstop, Kostecki crashed into
Mark Winterbottom in the #18 DeWalt Chevrolet, breaking the steering on car #1
and losing 2 laps in repairs. Brodie would lose an additional lap in pit-lane
penalties.
Lap 20 saw Jaxon Evans in the #12 SCT Logistics Chevrolet
tangle with Aaron Love in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Ford, sending Evans
hard into the wall at Turn 1, ending his race and sending him to last. Kostecki
and Reynolds would make no further progress up the leaderboard.
Completing the Bottom Five was Matt Payne in the #19 Penrite
Oils Ford after having to pit for a Mechanical Black Flag due to diffuser
damage on Lap 34 and Aaron Love in the #3 Cooldrive Distribution Ford.
