James Courtney picked up the 17th last-place finish of his career when his #44 Boost Mobile Ford was involved in a 2-car crash that ended his race without completing a single lap of the rain-shortened third race at Sydney Motorsport Park. The finish came in Courtney's 485th start.
James Courtney is a veteran of the Supercar series. He has one championship, in 2010, and has been racing for 16 years full-time. He was 20th in Practice 1 but rose to 19th in Practice 2. He then rose further to 14th in Qualifying.
Chaz Mostert in the #25 Appliances Online Holden started the race in the rear after being disqualified from Qualifying due to the car being too wide, but off the start Brodie Kostecki in the #99 Boost Mobile Holden and James Courtney in the #44 Boost Mobile Ford went off at turn 3 after contact and their wheels interlocking, subsequently crashing hard, leaving James Courtney last.
Jake Kostecki in the #34 UNIT Holden pulled into the garage on lap 4 with a Power Steering issue, dropping 2 laps in repairs. A late-race crash would end Jake Kostecki's race.
Rounding out the Bottom Five was Shane Van Gisbgergen in the #97 Red Bull Holden after a drive-through penalty for a pit-lane infringement, and Bryce Fullwood in the #2 Middy's Electrical Holden, who also got a pit-lane penalty, this one for a jump start.
