Jack Smith picked up the 4th last-place finish of his career when his #4 SCT Logistics Holden was involved in two separate incidents that ended his race after 1 of the race's 44 laps. The finish came in Smith's 47th start, and now leads the 2021 Superlastcar championship.
Jack Smith is in his 2nd full-time season in the main game. He was 22nd in Practice 1 but rose to 21st in Practice 2. He jumped to 14th in Qualifying.
Garry Jacobson in the #22 Premair Hire Holden started the race in the rear, but it was carnage at Turn 4.
Jack LeBrocq in the #5 Truck Assist Ford got into the back of Anton DePasquale in the #11 Shell V-Power Ford, spinning him. In the aftermath, Andre Heimagrtner in the #7 NED Ford spun Jack LeBreocq out.
At the same time, Fabian Coulthard in the #19 Local Legends Heat Sauce made contact with Jack Smith in the #4 SCT Logistics Holden, sending both cars to the garage. Coulthard lost 11 laps in repairs, while Jack Smith, after further contact with James Courtney in the #44 Boost Mobile Holden, after contact with Macauley Jones in the #96 Coca-Cola Holden retired with terminal damage and dropped to last. Courtney would lose 3 laps in repairs. Coulthard would retire shortly afterwards, and finish 2nd last.
Rounding out the Bottom Five was James Courtney in the #44 Boost Mobile Holden after contact with Jack Smith, Jack LeBrocq in the #5 Truck Assist Holden after being penalised for turning Andre Heimgartner, and Macauley Jones in the #96 Coca-Cola Holden after being penalised for contact with James Courtney.
