Tim Blanchard picked up his 7th last-place finish of his career when his
#21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden finished under power, 10 laps down in the
second race at Auckland. The finish came in Blanchard's 163rd start.
Tim Blanchard has been racing for 9 years, 6 of them full-time. He hasn't
had much results, and he's simply a money ride. Blanchard announced his
retirement last week. Blanchard was 17th in Practice 1 but improved to 12th in
Practice 2. Blanchard collapsed to 20th in Practice 3, but qualified 15th.
Todd Hazelwood in the #35 BigMate/Optus Ford started the race in the rear,
however by turn 4 Jack LeBrocq in the #19 Tekno Performance/Sabtool Holden fell
to the rear.
At turn 8 Anton De Pasquale in the #99 Penrite Oils Holden was spun,
falling to the rear. Shortly afterwards, Mark Winterbottom in the #5 - Ford
pitted, falling to the rear. On lap 2 Anton pitted and returned to last. Anton
would go on to finish 24th.
On lap 4 Tim Blanchard in the #21 Cooldrive Distribution Holden pulled
into the garage with steering damage after contact with Mark Winterbottom in
the #5 The Bottle-O/Castrol /Mercury Cider Ford, losing 10 laps in repairs.
Blanchard would hold last until the end.
Splitting Blanchard and De Pasquale was Todd Hazelwood in the #35 BigMate/Optus
Ford. Rounding out the bottom five was Jack LeBrocq in the #19 - Holden and
Rick Kelly in the #15 Castrol/Sengled Nissan.
