Brodie Kostecki (#17 Shell V-Power Ford) finished last for
the 5th time in his career. The finish came after he finished under power, 1
lap down at Symmonds Plains raceway. The finish came in Kostecki’s 165th start.
Brodie Kostecki, arguably the most talented of the Kostecki family, is in his 6th year in the main game. He ran a few races for Kostecki Brothers Racing alongside his brother and cousin, but the rest of his races have been for Erebus Motorsports.
2023 saw Brodie Kostecki win the championship for the first
time. 2024 went badly for Kostecki, as tensions with Erebus Motorsports cut the
first two races of the season from his schedule. Kostecki would move from
Erebus to Dick Johnson Racing in 2025, where he’s been much happier. Brodie was
2nd in Practice 1, then improved to fastest in Practice 2. Brodie would slip to
6th in Qualifying.
Jobe Stewart (#9 Total Energies/Quartz Chevrolet) started
last. But immediately, Kai Allen (#26 Penrite Ford) spun Zach Bates (#10 Bendix
Chevrolet), leaving Bates last, 5 seconds behind 23rd place Macauley Jones.
Chaz Mostert (#1 Mobil 1/Optus Toyota) spun Jayden Ojeda
(#31 Premiair Hire/Nulon Chevrolet) at Turn 6 on Lap 14. Stewards would
penalise Mostert 15 seconds for the hit. Mostert would drop to last during his
pit stop on lap 22.
David Reynolds (#20 Snowy River Caravans Chevrolet) slammed
into the back of Brodie Kostecki (#17 Shell V-Power Ford) on lap 23. Stewards
would penalise Reynolds 15 seconds for the hit. The penalty would relegate
Reynolds to 17th.
Kostecki would fall to last on Lap 33, and eventually would
finish last after being overtaken by Declan Fraser (#777 Premiair Hire/Nulon
Chevrolet) late in the race.
Aaron Cameron (#3 Liqui Moly Ford) spun Declan Fraser at
Turn 6 on Lap 37. Stewards wouldn’t penalise Cameron.
Jobe Stewart (#9 Total Energies/Quartz Chevrolet), Jackson
Walls (#11 Overdrive Ford) and Chaz Mostert (#1 Mobil 1/Optus Ford) would
complete the bottom five.
