First lap collision leaves Jaxon Evans last, and leading, at Townsville

Original by Speedcafe, edited by me.
Jaxon Evans (#12 SCT Logistics Chevrolet) finished last for the sixth time after a first-lap collision ended his race after 4 of the race’s 35 laps. The finish came in Evans’ 44th start. Evans currently holds the 2025 last-place championship lead; he achieved this via three last-place finishes.

Jaxon Evans is in his 2nd full-time season with Brad Jones Racing, having replaced Jack Smith in 2024 after outpacing him at Bathurst. Evans has also competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship, and finished 2nd in 2021 in the International Porsche Supercup. He was 18th in Practice 1, then dipped to 19th in Practice 2. Evans dropped to 23rd in Qualifying.

Macauley Jones (#96 Pizza Hut Chevrolet) started the race in the rear.

Entering Turn 1, the collision between Jaxon Evans (#12 SCT Logistics Chevrolet) and Cooper Murray (#99 Date Energy/Tropic Petroleum Chevrolet) wrecked Evans’ right-front suspension.

The incident would relegate Evans to the garage and to the bottom position. Towards the end of the race, Evans would exit the garage to do four laps, possibly to check the car was OK. But Evans would finish last.

Teammate Jones would remain 23rd for the early stages of the race.

James Couurtney (#7 Snowy River Caravans Ford) ran teammate Aaron Cameron (#3 Cooldrive Distribution Ford) off the road at Turn 5 on Lap 5, dropping him to 23rd.

Pit stops would be the only contest for the rest of the Bottom Five. The first pit stop was Ryan Wood (#2 Truck Assist/Mobil 1 Ford) on Lap 10.

Nick Percat (#10 Bendix Chevrolet) pitted on Lap 11. Percat would hold last until James Golding (#31 Nulon Chevrolet) pitted on Lap 18. Cooper Murray (#99 Date Charger/Tropic Petroleum Chevrolet) pitted on Lap 23. Aaron Cameron (#3 Cooldrive Distribution Ford) would pit on Lap 26 and remain 23rd for the rest of the race.

James Courtney (#7 Snowy River Caravans Ford) and David Reynolds (#20 Tradie Chevrolet) completed the Bottom Five.
