Brake explosion leaves Cameron Hill last at Townsville

Original by Speecafe, cropped by me.

Cameron Hill (#4 Supaglass Chevrolet) finished last at Townsville, 10 laps down after a brake pad explosion. The finish came in Hill’s 74th start.

Cameron Hill is in his 3rd full-time Championship season with Matt Stone Racing. He was previously at Red Bull in 2022 while racing for Super 2. Hill won a race in 2025 at Albert Park, and has been competitive this year. He was 16th in Practice 1 and rose to 14th in Practice 2. Hill improved further to 12th in Qualifying.

Macauley Jones (#96 Pizza Hut Chevrolet) started last and remained there during the first laps. Lap 4 saw Jones overtake Jack LeBrocq (#9 Tyrepower Chevrolet).

Despite pit stops starting on Lap 15, Le Brocq pitted on that lap and remained last. That would remain until Lap 17 when teammate Cooper Murray (#99 Date Energy/Tropic Petroleum Chevrolet) pitted and fell behind LeBrocq.

Lap 23 Will Davison (#17 Shell V-Power Ford) had a right-front wheel come loose, sending him to last. Davison remained in last place until Lap 39, when the crew pulled Cameron Hill (#4 Supaglass Chevrolet) into the garage because of a broken brake rotor. The damage would cost 8 laps in repairs, and Hill would remain last.

The race for the rest of the Bottom Five would continue for the rest of the race. David Reynolds (#20 Tradie Chevrolet) turned James Courtney (#7 Snowy River Caravans Ford) on Lap 31. Officials penalized Reynolds 15 seconds for the contact, which led him to finish 21st. The last drivers in the Bottom Five were Jack LeBrocq (#9 Tyrepower Chevrolet) and Cooper Murray (#99 Date Energy/Tropic Petroleum Chevrolet) after they ran out of fuel on the last lap.
